Center for Translational Biomarker Research
Learn about our mission, background, organizational structure, and the scientific vision driving translational biomarker research at Universitas Padjadjaran.
As a tropical country, Indonesia faces high vulnerability to infectious diseases, compounded by the growing burden of lifestyle-related catastrophic conditions — including metabolic, cardiovascular, and degenerative diseases. In 2018 alone, government spending on catastrophic disease management exceeded IDR 94 trillion, a figure that continues to rise each year.
Patients with catastrophic conditions are particularly prone to secondary infections due to weakened immunity and poor environmental sanitation, further extending care time and costs. A comprehensive and integrative approach is urgently needed.
“Biology markers — measurable molecules, biochemical compounds, or cells in tissues that reflect physiological or pathological processes — are central to advancing diagnostics, therapy, and prevention in modern medicine.”
The impact of biology marker research is globally recognized. Nobel Prizes in Physiology or Medicine from 2015–2019 were each awarded for biology marker innovations: antiparasitic targets, autophagy proteins, circadian rhythm mechanisms, immune checkpoint therapy for cancer, and cellular oxygen-sensing pathways.
Vision: To become a globally recognized translational biomarker research center that meaningfully contributes to improving health indicators in Indonesia and beyond.
Mission: To identify, develop, and validate biology markers for infectious diseases, oncology, and herbal sciences through multidisciplinary collaboration — translating scientific discoveries into real-world clinical applications
